Johan Thorn Prikker: Wall painting in Rotterdam (NL)
Johan Thorn Prikker’s success in Germany began to be mirrored in the Netherlands in the early 1920s. His earlier rejected design for the chamber of the new City Hall in Rotterdam entitled ‘The Harbour Industry’ was displayed in his retrospective exhibition at the Rotterdamsche Kunstkring in 1921. In the following year Dirk Hannema, the director of Museum Boymans, acquired the work for the museum’s collection, thus emphasising his intention to create a museum for modern art.
