Johan Thorn Prikker: Walldecoration at Scheveningen (NL)
Subtitles will follow shortly.
After 1895 Johan Thorn Prikker focused increasingly on the applied arts, as he believed that he would be able to reach a larger audience. Together with the architect Chris Wegerif, Thorn Prikker established a progressive gallery in The Hague called Arts and Crafts. In addition to paintings and sculptures by internationally renowned artists and furniture by Henry van de Velde, the gallery sold batiks, lamps and furniture by Johan Thorn Prikker made in the gallery’s own workshops. In 1900 Thorn Prikker was employed by the interior design company Binnenhuis Die Haghe. Together with the sculptor Johan Altorf, he designed the interior of Huis de Zeemeeuw (The Seagull) in Scheveningen, designed by Henry van de Velde.
