    Bodon rooms

The exhibition is built in the modernistic rooms that were designed for Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in the 1960’s by the Hungarian-Dutch architect Alexander Bodon. The rooms have been transformed beyond recognition.

To realise the exhibition, Pipilotti Rist’s crew from Switzerland collaborates closely with the technical department of the museum. The technical department consists of seven employees and is headed by Wouter Louman. However, for some projects the crew is expanded to over thirty men and women.

  4. Romantic moonlit landscape

Pipilotti Rist designs the exhibition Elixer as a journey through one’s inner world and parallels this journey with the rather clinical image of an endoscopic examination of the intestines. Still, film maker Marcel Prins finds the opportunity to reverse the image again and projects the mental journey onto a romantic moonlit landscape.

The making of Elixir

1. Every Mega Structure begins small. With the design at hand on the laptop, some paper tape and an enormous amount of patience, Pipilotti Rist’s crew starts to draw the contours of the exhibition on the floor.
2. At the centre of the exhibition, an enormous branch of a tree is waiting to be decorated with all kinds of transparant and colourless boxes and covers. It witnesses the transformation of the rooms. But: what can a branch actually see?
3. The term Mega Structure calls to mind images of strong poles, a concrete foundation, steel beams, muscles and sweat. The Elixir team demonstrates that it is also possible to build a mega structure out of plywood and tie wraps.
4. Again the perspective of the big branch from part two. The exhibition is almost finished, but the branch doesn’t recognise video’s nor works of art. It seems to perceive an independent world of light, shadows, colour and movement. The sun goes down - the moon rises. Everything is different and yet all is the same forever.

This video was made for the exhibition Elixir: The video organism of Pipilotti Rist which was on view until May 10th 2009 at Museum Boijmvans Van Beuningen.
