Safe transport

To ensure safe transport, all necessary precautions were taken. The painting is carefully packed in an insulated climate chest, specially made to measure. This protects the work against fluctuations in temperate and humidity, for these could cause damage.

The truck has air suspension (shock resistant) and a constant temperature. Once in Milan, the painting is hoisted through a window, because the Palazzo does not have a large goods lift and using the stairway is too dangerous. The art work is removed from the box and packaging by specially training art handlers, under the watchful eye of the restorer who checks the work on site for damage.

Condition report

Any new damage is noted in the condition report that was drawn up earlier in Museum Boijmans van Beuningen. Fortunately no new damage was found. The restored work can be seen for the first time in Milan in a new, reconstructed frame that was fitted together on site.

From Milan with Love

This video offers a peek behind the scenes of a large art transport. Seven works by Salvador Dalí from the collection of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen are being temporarily loaned to the Palazzo Reale in Milan for an exhibition about Salvador Dalí. One of these is the triptych ‘Landscape with a girl skipping with a rope’ from 1936, which was specially restored for this exhibition. You can see how carefully the gigantic work is taken inch by inch into the museum. A job for real professionals. Watch the video about the restoration of the triptych.
