Large installations

The Swiss video artist Pipilotti Rist has established an international reputation with her large three-dimensional audiovisual installations. Visitors lie back on soft platforms, cushions or even beds to watch the images on the ceiling, the floor and on transparent curtains. In the spring of 2009 she transformed the exhibition space of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in one large installation. ‘Let Your Hair Down’ builds upon these installations.

This staircase was built as part of the new exhibition spaces that the architect Alexander Bodon designed for the museum in 1964. The stairs haven’t been used much the last few years, because another staircase was used as the main entrance.

‘Let Your Hair Down’ in the entrance area

Lying in the installation ‘Let Your Hair Down’ you can leave behind your everyday cares for a while and give yourself over to video art while floating in the air. Pipilotti Rist was commissioned to make ‘Let Your Hair Down’ specially for the museum and the H+F Patronage (http://www.boijmans.nl/en/25/hf-mecenaat). Amid the other amenities in the entrance area she has designed a place to relax at the beginning of your museum visit or to recharge your batteries during your visit. The installation is a permanent part of the museum collection an can be visited for free.
