Curator José Teunissen about Dutch fashion designers Viktor & Rolf and their role in the world of fashion and art
They may look like classical fashion designers – the House of Viktor & Rolf isn’t a traditional house of couture at all. On the contrary, the inseparable couple designs clothes that refer mockingly to the principles of the fashion industry. The clothes are gorgeous and the mockery is serious.
For The Art of Fashion, Viktor & Rolf created a perfume ‘with-a-scent’. They presented their new perfume in a mysterious room that is accessible only through a dark corridor. José Teunissen, who knows the couple since their student years, takes an effort to describe what you will experience entering the installation at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and explains the relationship of this work with the rest of the oeuvre.
This video is part of the The Art of Fashion exhibition, on view until January 10th 2010 at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
