Time travelling
In films, it is always accompanied by sparks and explosions, but in the museum you pass from one period to another in peace and comfort. Backwards, forwards to the future, and then back again. A work of art is the best vehicle around for time travel!
In the series Time Travel, we make sometimes logical and often unexpected links between works of art and design objects from the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. In this way you can, for example, follow a technique in the furniture industry, such as bending wood. You start at the moment when the possibility was discovered, and you continue right up to the way it was used by a designer such as Richard Hutten. Or to put it another way: you travel with the Hutten chair back to the time of Thonet. And from him, via the Eames, back to the future.
