Know your classics

Besides the changing exhibitions, the museum shows hundreds of art classics permanently. From Hieronymus Bosch to Salvador Dalí and from Rembrandt to Victor & Rolf: in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen you can see works from throughout the entire Western art history.

And if you want more, rent the multimedia tour, with commentary by journalist and television presenter Hanneke Groenteman.

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen nodigt (jonge) filmmakers uit een video of animatie te maken over het allergrootste of juist het allerkleinste kunstwerk in de museumcollectie.

Heb je een geniaal idee voor een XS-XL video? Werk dit uit tot een script voor een korte, informatieve internetvideo van maximaal 3 minuten en stuur het op vóór 15 april 2010. De beste ideeën kunnen voor een budget van €1000 worden uitgevoerd en worden getoond op ArtTube, het online videokanaal van Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Meer info

Spotting VIPs?

VIP or not: everybody is welcome at the opening of new exhibitions in the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum. They are festive occasions, with special speakers, tours and performances.

Carsten Höller- Divided Divided open!

Starting early February, visitors can experience contemporary artist Carsten Höller’s extraordinary installations. In the museum’s largest gallery, with more than 1,500 m2 of floor space, he has applied a simple arithmetical formula that repeatedly divides the space and the objects in it into two, creating an entity that heightens the visitor’s experience: Divided Divided sharpens all the senses. A Room for Two in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and artist Carsten Höller are offering visitors a unique opportunity to spend a night in the museum. Guests staying in the sculpture Revolving Hotel Room will have day and night access to the whole museum and will be able to relax in this extraordinary work of art. The Guggenheim Museum in New York exhibited the hotel room last year with great success.

Divided Divided
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will present this exclusive hotel room as part of Carsten Höller’s exhibition. He creates a new 1,500 m2 installation especially for the museum, on show from 6 February to 25 April 2010.

The exhibition and hotel room are part of the official programme of Holland Art Cities 2009-2010 and have been made possible in part by the Goethe Institute Rotterdam, the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen e.V. (ifa), Bilderberg Parkhotel Rotterdam and Sikkens.

Let your hair down

Climb into a hammock, relax above the chasm and watch videos. Her spectacular exhibition Elixir is, unfortunately, over, but Pipilotti Rist left something behind in the museum: Let your hair down, an interactive video installation.

ArtTube has a big brother

On the other side of the world, the Indianapolis Museum of Art came up with the same idea and made Art Babble.

ArtTube and Art Babble are somewhat similar, so we are now working together.

On Art Babble you can watch videos from mainly American museums. In the Netherlands, the Van Gogh Museum also participates in addition to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.

More than 100 entries for the Rist video competition

During the Elixir exhibition of Pipilotti Rist, the museum organised a video competition with the theme: ‘Make a portrait of your friend’.

Poetic video of the Merry-go-round coat rack

Wieki Somers' website has a poetic film about the coat rack she made for the entrance hall of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Her Merry-go-round coat rack is 10 metres in diameter and more than 4 metres tall.
